211 is a free, confidential information and referral service that connects people of all ages across Maine to local services. 211 Maine is based in Maine and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their Specialists are trained and ready to assist you.

You can reach 211 via phone, text, or email to talk to someone or by searching their databases for assistance.

NAMI Maine

NAMI (National Alliance On Mental Illness) Maine provides advocacy, education, and support so that all individuals, families, and communities affected by mental illness can live fulfilling lives. They offer an extensive database of all available mental health clinics in the state that deal with a wide range of issues from substance abuse to eating disorders and more. The database can be accessed by clicking here. They also offer education and raise awareness through special events and fundraisers.

Maine Behavioral Health Organization

The Maine Behavioral Health Organization’s mission is to provide evidence-based services leading to increased quality of life through research, advocacy, education, operated services, and by participating in public health policy design. They offer many services from outpatient care to children and adult programs. Their website also offers information about the Maine Crisis Hotline, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Line, and the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) that offers information about the impact of alcohol and other substances on mental health.

Maine Maternal

Maine Maternal caters particularly to reproductive and maternal mental health, helping new parents overcome their current stresses and struggles or assisting women struggling with postpartum depression, anxiety, traumatic births, grief, loss, and a host of other difficult subjects. They host online support groups and provide confidential online therapy.

Maine Parent Federation

The Maine Parent Federation offers a host of resources for parents and families. They have a wealth of experience and knowledge about working with and navigating the service delivery systems of care in Maine.

They have an extensive network of professionals, educators, and experienced families who work with with you to help you find a solution.

Sweetser

Sweetser is a behavioral health nonprofit that provides evidence-based treatment, support and hope through a statewide network of community-based mental health, recovery, and educational services. They can help find therapists, offer education, assistance with children and families with special needs, and have their own crisis line that can be reached at 1-888-568-1112.

Maine Queer Health

Maine Queer Health is a program of MaineTransNet and the Mabel Wadsworth Center focused on improving LGBTQ+ community health access in Maine. This resource centralizes information about LGBTQ+ health, insurance coverage, and a database of LGBTQ+ friendly health and wellness providers.

The Maine Organic Farmers & Gardener’s Association

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association is a broad-based community that educates about and advocates for organic agriculture, illuminating its inter­dependence with a healthy environment, local food production, and thriving communities. They offer great information about CSAs, a system in which farmers offer shares (or weekly subscriptions) of their harvest – allowing CSA members to sample the season while helping to minimize farmers’ risks by paying up-front for the harvest. The farmer and CSA member are partners in a dynamic relationship: They share risks (of a crop failure, for example) and rewards of a fruitful farmer-consumer relationship. These are great resources for low-cost, fresh produce, meat and dairy items for local Mainers–and Hospitality Workers!–looking to eat and feed their families healthy food on a budget. Look into their resource lists of local farms participating in CSAs here.

The Daybreak Grower’s AllianceWolfpine Farm, and Beech Hill Farm are a few local farms that offer CSAs and are worth checking into!

The Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition

The Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition (CHCC) is a dedicated organization working to improve the health and well-being of communities along the coast of Maine. They focus on a wide range of health initiatives, including substance use prevention, mental health support, and promoting healthy lifestyles. CHCC collaborates with local partners to provide resources, education, and support to individuals and families in the community.

The Opportunity Alliance

The Opportunity Alliance is a comprehensive community action agency serving the people of Maine. They offer a wide range of services and support, including mental health services, substance use treatment, early childhood education, and housing assistance. The Burnt Chef Project

4 out of 5 hospitality professionals report having experienced at least one mental health issue during their career.

The Burnt Chef Project provides education, support, and resources, to tackle mental health stigma and work to ensure the hospitality and leisure industry is healthier and more sustainable by focusing on people’s wellbeing first. They offer many free resources such as a 24/7 support line, an academy full of free training for staff and managers about promoting mental health in the workplace, and have started putting together a global Employee Assistance Program.

Not 9 To 5

Not 9 to 5 is a non-profit global leader in mental health advocacy and training for the hospitality and culinary industry. Since 2018, Not 9 to 5 has been advocating to normalize mental health education and training, workplace accommodations, healthcare benefits, support, and resources for all industry professionals.

Safe Bars

Safe Bars’ mission is to create safe, equitable, and welcoming alcohol-serving hospitality spaces. They use active bystander intervention, de-escalation, and allyship strategies to empower the staff of bars, restaurants, hotels, breweries, distilleries, clubs, event venues, suppliers, distributors, and brands to stop sexual aggression and other forms of gender-based violence in their work environments.

Another Round, Another Rally

Another Round Another Rally is a nonprofit financial and educational resource for the hospitality industry. They provide reimbursement grants and immersive educational scholarships to further the education of historically excluded voices in the community and supply emergency assistance to those employed in restaurants, bars, and hotels who have fallen on unexpected hardship.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Heard

The Heard program is an online mental health support group for the food and beverage industry. On Monday nights at 7pm ET | 4pm PT, it hosts a free Zoom meeting to make space for issues facing front line workers in the hospitality industry. You don’t have to share, and you don’t have to have your camera on. Enter room 817 5343 6363 with password 12345 to join the conversation.

Restaurant After Hours

Restaurant After Hours is a charitable organization providing mental health support for the hospitality industry. They have compiled a list of health resources, many free, for you to explore.

If you are in crisis, resources include crisis hotlines, mental health organizations, 12-step programs and support groups. Links are provided to restaurant focused organizations and communities, as well as LGBTQIA+, women-led and online communities.

Focus On Health

Focus on Health believes that hospitality begins with taking care of yourself. Their team specializes in developing No and Low ABV cocktail menus suitable for your bar or restaurant’s needs. They also offer a wide range of training to help shape responses to mental health and addiction, as well as provide guidance for creating safe bars.

Southern Smoke Foundation

Southern Smoke exists to take care of all food and beverage workers.

As a nonprofit founded and powered by current and past F&B workers, they’ve felt the heat of our industry firsthand. Their efforts are dedicated to creating a meaningful safety net of support for all restaurant workers nationwide. They offer Emergency Relief Funds for restaurant workers and have recently begun a free counseling movement for F&B workers called the Behind You program. It provides no-cost counseling for industry workers who apply to their program through their website.

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project’s mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ+ young people. The Trevor Project estimates that more than 1.8 million LGBTQ+ young people seriously consider suicide each year in the U.S. Their trained counselors connect with LGBTQ young people 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Safe Space Alliance
